Hold the hot key and talk

Put the caret where you want the text, hold Control-Option-R, and say what you want to write. When you let go, Riff transcribes the take and types the text at the caret.

Where the text goes

Riff types into the text field that has focus in the app you were using, such as a message, an email, a document, or a search box. If text is selected, Riff replaces it, the way typing would.

Typing into other apps uses macOS accessibility, so Riff needs Accessibility access. Turn on Riff under Privacy & Security > Accessibility in System Settings. Without it, or when no text field has focus, Riff keeps the text in its history so you can paste it yourself.

One take at a time

A take starts when you press the hot key and ends when you let go. While Riff is still transcribing a take, it ignores a new press, so the take in progress is never cut short.

Choose your own hot key

Control-Option-R is the default. You can record a different combination in Settings.
